A new online store for a regional food brand selling since 1993
Ekerler Baharat & Gıda has been selling spices, cheese, nuts and regional produce in Ereğli, Konya since 1993. Its old site was slow, but orders kept coming because people love the brand. We rebuilt the store on Mars CMS: 383 products, automatic pricing by weight, gift sending, Yurtiçi Kargo integration, sign-in with Google and Apple, and an Order Desk for staff. 1,754 customer accounts moved over with their existing passwords.

Index 02 / 38
Ekerler Baharat & Gıda has been selling in Ereğli, Konya since 1993. The shop stocks spices, cheese and charcuterie, nuts, dried fruit, Turkish delight and confectionery, honey, tahini, molasses and pulses, and ships its products online across Türkiye.
The brand has had an online store since 2019. Over the years the site fell behind, but orders kept coming, because customers know Ekerler, like its products and buy again. 900 orders came through the old site in the last eight months.
We rebuilt the store on Mars CMS, Mars Creative’s content and e-commerce platform. The goal was to open a store worthy of the brand’s reputation, make the staff’s work easier, and leave none of the existing customers, orders or search rankings behind.
BEFORE / AFTER
Same address, new site.
Same shop, two sites. The old home page downloaded about 32 MB on a phone and scored 51 for mobile performance; the new one is 1.5 MB and scores 85 (Lighthouse, 3 November 2026).
APPROACH
Built step by step.
The old site had been live since 2019 and was struggling by today's standards: the home page downloaded about 32 MB on a phone, most product pages had no description, and products were presented to search engines as blog posts. Even so, 900 orders came through it in the last eight months, 797 by card and 103 by bank transfer. It was the brand, not the site, that brought those orders: Ekerler's customers know the products and come back. Our job was to give the brand the store it deserves without losing a single customer, order or search ranking along the way. The work progressed under six headings.
-
PHASE 01
Fast, light and readable aisles
The store opens onto ten aisles: cheese and charcuterie, nuts, dried fruit, confectionery and Turkish delight, honey-tahini-molasses, spices, pulses, coffee, gifts and regional products. Each aisle shows its product count and the free-shipping threshold at the top, with a list for moving between aisles beside it. Product photos are resized to the screen and load as the visitor scrolls; the old home page downloaded 386 images at once on a phone. We measured both sites on the same day from the same computer: the old site stayed live on its old server after the domain switched, so it could be measured directly. On phones a bar sits at the bottom of the screen: home, aisles, search and WhatsApp are one tap away on every page.

PHASE 02
Automatic pricing by weight
Most of Ekerler's spices, nuts and cheese are sold by the kilo, while customers often want half a kilo or 250 grams. When a product's sales unit is set to kilogram in the panel, the price entered is the price per kilo, and the 750, 500 and 250 gram options are calculated from it automatically; customers can also type in a different weight. Staff do not enter four prices for each product, and do not update four prices one by one when prices rise. 372 of the 383 products have a description and a product specification list, and 1,100 product photos are live. There is a per-order quantity limit: 3 for cheese and charcuterie products, 5 for everything else.

PHASE 03
Checkout: gift sending, card and bank transfer
Regional food often goes out as a gift: a parcel from Ereğli to a relative in Istanbul. When the 'I'm sending a gift' box at the top of checkout is ticked, the form splits in two; delivery details belong to the person receiving the gift, the invoice to the person ordering, and the recipient's phone number is taken separately. Payment is by card through iyzico or by bank transfer; for transfers the bank details appear on the order screen and in the email. The cart shows how much is left until free shipping, and discount codes are applied on the same screen. The distance sales contract and the pre-information form are filled in automatically with the order's details; VAT on shipping is calculated separately from VAT on products.

PHASE 04
Migration: customers with their passwords, orders with their history
The biggest loss for a brand moving to a new store is having to email its customers asking them to reset their passwords. Ekerler did not need to: 1,754 customer accounts moved over from the old site together with their addresses and order history; 1,638 members can sign in with their old password, which is converted to the new system's secure format on first sign-in. 882 orders sit in the My Account page with their past statuses. The last two card orders that came in on the night of the switch were also carried over from the old site. Product and category addresses did not change; 377 of the 388 addresses in the old sitemap open on the new site, and the remaining 11 are products that were taken down. There are two shorter ways into My Account as well: Google and Apple. Customers sign in with one tap and no password; because the account is matched by email address, an existing member sees their own order history, and a new customer's account is created on first sign-in.

PHASE 05
Back office: Order Desk and Yurtiçi Kargo
The staff who prepare orders do not have to deal with a complicated panel. The Order Desk splits the day's work into queues: awaiting payment, to prepare, shipped and completed, with unfinished card payments in a queue of their own. Confirming a payment, handing an order to the courier and marking it delivered each take a single tap on a large button. The Yurtiçi Kargo integration creates the shipment from the panel, writes the tracking number to the order and updates the shipment status automatically every hour. Staff with the Orders and Shipping role see only this screen in the panel. Order notifications go to several addresses, and customer emails go out from Ekerler's own domain. Customers can ask to be notified when an out-of-stock product returns; the email goes out automatically when it is back in stock.
-
PHASE 06
Catalogue management and visibility
Product information can be updated in bulk from a list edited in Excel; the file is checked in a dry run first to show what will change, and products are matched by stock code so they are not duplicated. Prices can be changed by percentage for a chosen aisle: a bulk price change first shows how many products will be affected and the old and new prices, and is written only after confirmation; prices can be rounded to 50 kuruş or to the whole lira. The panel opens at the brand's own address. Product pages carry price, shipping and return information in a form search engines can read, and the site also publishes a summary and catalogue for AI agents. Google Analytics 4 and Search Console are connected; cookie consent works with Consent Mode v2.
